What steps to follow?
Do you want to start a company in this country? Then you have to follow these steps, according to the KvK (which is mainly translation here below – Kvk stands for Kamer van Koophandel, which is in English the Chamber of Commerce):
Step 1 is: Investigate your possibilities and test your qualities
You want to become an entrepreneur. But what kind of business do you want to start? Do you want to start your own shop? What are you going to sell? What services are you going to provide? And is entrepreneurship really something for you? Look at the possibilities for your future business, write a business plan and test your entrepreneurial skills. This will give you an impression of whether starting your own business is feasible.
Step 2 is: Explore the market and determine your strategy
Starting your own business requires time and research. Find out what makes you better or different from your competitors and decide how to enter the market with your product or service. What makes your own business different? What makes you stand out? Who are your customers and what do they want? Do market research and determine your strategy for the coming years.
Step 3 is: Make a financial plan and see if you need financing
You need money to get your business off the ground. With a financial plan you map out how much you need and where you will get it from. You will also gain insight into the opportunities of your business. So you can assess in advance whether starting a business is profitable for you.

Step 4 is: Think up a unique company name
For your KVK registration you need a company name. A good company name is recognisable, sticks and makes it clear what you have to offer. First check whether your company name does not yet exist.
Step 5 is: Choose a legal form
Before you start your own business, you need a legal form: a legal form. The legal form determines, among other things, your liability, but also the taxes you have to pay and whether you receive tax benefits.
